Tudor went on tour with the RonCon2010 Conference. This well received two day package was hosted in North Vancouver and Calgary. Ron Shewchuk did a great job of envisioning and implementing this interactive conference.

Ryan was privileged to judge with an excellent international panel this year to evaluate entries for IABC highest honour for a non communication professional. The award went to Kevin Warren, Xerox Canada who was an excellent example of leadership communications.

Coaching defensive line and leadership development Ryan was proud to journey with the Vancouver College Fighting Irish in his tenth year of coaching with the team. They lost in the provincial semi final 15-14 to WJ Mouat from Abbotsford.

For years we have conducted employee engagement surveys with excellent communication support and recommendations. In the fall of 2009 we combined our best practices and refined the process. The result is clients with the best tools for making real improvements based on solid discussions and decision making.

IABC Colorado - Communication measurement - Justifying your job

Tudor helped participants learn that measuring the impacts of what and how you communicate is a fundamental aspect of professional credibility, employment longevity and peace of mind that you contribute value. Measurement is a core component of your communication plan. As the tools and tactics of communication change so do the measurement strategies. This is especially true with increasing use of social media and the importance of sharing and collaboration with our internal and external audiences. In this workshop participants learned:

  • How to integrate practical measurement strategies into the communication plan
  • How to design and implement measurement strategies
  • How to apply measurement strategies to the use of social networking media

IABC San Francisco - Gold Quill Blue Ribbon Judging
March 19 - 20, 2009

Ryan was honoured to participate as a judge for Gold Quill at the Blue Ribbon panel this year. He met up with communicators from 11 countries and six continents in San Francisco where they reviewed some of the best work in the communications profession.

Trinity Western University - Community Consultation Process
February 22, 2009

Ryan was happy to shift and challenge the minds of undergraduate students at Trinity Western University. He presented a case study that engaged multi audience public relations strategies that built sustainable relationships. He used a case study that involved environmentalists, celebrities and one small community who was dependent on their pulp mill. We helped them learn to live together.

BC Communication Forum Vancouver - Using social media in your communication strategies

Tudor and Ryan jointly presented this 90 minute presentation at the Renaissance Hotel Vancouver. They asked "Are communicators ready to incorporate the use of social media in our communication strategies? Do we see ourselves as leaders and implementers of social media?"

In the past year, TWI Surveys has conducted a number of research studies on the use of social media. The objective was to explore how engaged communicators are in the planning and use of social media. In this session, Ryan and Tudor Williams share the findings and present the implications for the future of communications. Participants learned:

  • The extent to which communicators are aware of and prepared for the impacts of social media
  • Where the use of social media fits into communication strategies
  • How communicators measure the outcomes and impacts of social media on business results
  • The role communicators see for themselves in the evolution of social media in their organizations

IABC New York - Social Media Leaders

Ryan and Tudor traveled across Canada and ended with a presentation in New York this spring. They conducted a series of surveys that explored the use of social media by corporate communicators. This presentation sets the demographic stage that communication channels are changing and we need to plan for this change. You can see more about this topic in an article they co wrote in Communication World that was published in June 2008. Tudor makes a strong case for planning and Ryan makes the case for need to adopt a people focused leadership philosophy to communicate in this emerging medium.

Almost two thirds of IABC members surveyed by twisurveys Inc. in August 2006 say they receive too much email. Over a third of members said that this overload impacts negatively on their productivity.
